A successful Homecoming and Reunion Weekend was had by all October 5-8. College events included a State of the College update, a brunch and parade watch, and a tailgate booth and football game cheering section. At our all-class reception and dinner, we honored the college’s 2017 Alumni Award Winners and announced the Reunion Giving Challenge Winners. This year, the Class of 1967 raised the most dollars and the Class of 1957 had the highest class participation
Richard H. Thaler (ADL ’67, HON ’03) received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his pioneering work in behavioral economics.
Two College of Arts and Sciences women are being honored at the Women of Achievement luncheon on October 27. Lee Thompson, professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences, is a Mather Prize awardee, and alumna Sue Friedman Klarreich (GRS ’73) is Notable Woman of the Year.
Ross W. Duffin, the Fynette H. Kulas Professor of Music, was honored as one of four new Distinguished University Professors during Fall Convocation.
The Baker-Nord Scholars are helping to invigorate the humanities on campus. Of the 10 students in the inaugural cohort, seven have already declared one, two or even three majors in the humanities.
Nick Maurer is a biology major who is also working toward a master’s degree in public health. In addition, he is completing minors in chemistry and business management. During his time at CWRU, Nick has conducted clinical research on prion transmission and gene therapy.
Gifts to the College Fund, the annual fund for the College of Arts and Sciences, provide critical support that can be directed toward the college’s most pressing needs. Because they are investments of unrestricted dollars, such gifts provide us with the flexibility to help our students achieve their goals, and their impact is realized daily.
Dr. James A. Wallace (ADL ’68) says that he was well prepared for a professional career in music education and choral conducting thanks to his experience at CWRU.
