Robin Snyder, Patrick Wintrode and Peter Thomas co-organize the Biomathematics Research Forum, an informal weekly gathering of students and faculty working at the intersection of the mathematical and biological sciences. Every Friday at 12:30 p.m. we will host a discussion of work in progress led by some member of Case's mathematical biology community. Feel free to bring your lunch! We will meet in 405 Clapp Hall.

We do not intend the biomath forum to be a venue for polished talks on finished work. Rather we would promote a high degree of speaker-audience interaction, airing of open problems and seeking of input from colleagues from multiple disciplines. Examples of the kinds of discussions we have in mind are:

- A faculty member in the middle of a project, wrestling with a knotty problem, seeks suggestions from colleagues with different expertise and/or seeks to interest students in the research problem;

- A team of undergraduates present their progress on a research problem explored as part of Case's RIBMS program (http://www.case.edu/artsci/ribms/ribms.html) and seek ideas for the next phase of their project;

- A graduate student exploring ideas for a thesis project presents a journal article that has caught her or his attention, and discusses with the audience how one might go beyond the results already published

We plan to use Case's online collaborative wiki environment to support communication, maintain a schedule of discussants etc. In order secure access to the wiki, please e-mail one of the organizers expressing your interest in the forum.

We would like to encourage students and faculty alike to approach us to volunteer to discuss the problems they're currently working on. If we don't hear from you, we are likely to approach you! We hope to see many of you at the biomath forum.
