For students nearing the end of their USEM experiences, the creation of the SAGES Portfolio is the next writing milestone. For some resources on encouraging reflection and on the value of portfolios, see:
"Writing Portfolios: What Teachers Learn from Student Self-Assessment" - An article that uses examples from student reflective essays to discuss the value of peer response and reflection.
Rebecca Moore Howard's (Syracuse) "Portfolios" - A Bibliography of Composition Research.
"Choosing Reflective Practices" - CompFAQ site (a collaborative composition research wiki) that offers suggestions and resources for fostering reflection in writing classes.
