This flexible minor is designed to accommodate both busy student schedules and a wide range of possible interests in the cinema.<\/p>\n<p>See what some undergraduates who studied film at Case Western have <a title=\"CWRU Film Studies Alumni\" href=\"\/\/artsci.case.edu\/film\/alumni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gone on to do<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Film Minor Requirements<\/h3>\n<p><strong>TOTAL CREDITS: 15<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nREQUIRED COURSE: <a title=\"Introduction to Film\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/intro-to-film\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ENGL 367\u2014INTRODUCTION TO FILM<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><em>This course is open to all students, including first years, and has no prerequisites.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE REMAINING 12 CREDITS<\/strong> can consist of any combination of the\u00a0following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ENGL 368\u2014TOPICS IN FILM (up to 12 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\"><em><strong>ENGL 368\u2014Topics in Film courses are open to all students, including first years, and have no prerequisites, including ENGL 367\u2014INTRODUCTION TO FILM. There is no limit on the number of ENGL 368 credits a CWRU undergrad can earn.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">ENGL 368 courses have included <a title=\"History of Film\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/history-of-film\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">History of Film<\/a>, <a title=\"Horror Film\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/horror-film\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Horror Films<\/a>, Major Filmmakers at Work, <a title=\"Films of Alfred Hitchcock\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/hitchcock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Films of Alfred Hitchcock<\/a>, <a title=\"American Cinema History\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/american-cinema-history-culture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Cinema History &amp; Culture<\/a>, <a title=\"Introduction to Film Genres\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/intro-to-film-genres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Film Genres<\/a>, <a title=\"Science Fiction Films\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/science-fiction-films\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Science Fiction Films<\/a>, Shakespeare and Film, Classic American Novels on Film, Latin American Cinema, <a title=\"Watching Movies\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/watching-movies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Watching Movies<\/a>, Film Music, and <a title=\"Storytelling &amp; Cinema\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/storytelling-and-cinema\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Storytelling &amp; Cinema<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ENGL 316\u2014SCREENWRITING (up to 3 credits)<\/li>\n<li>APPROVED\u00a0ELECTIVE COURSES (up to 6 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Courses that have counted as electives toward the film minor include: Immersion Journalism\/Multimedia Storytelling, African-American History in and through Film, French and African Cinema, Latin American Cinema, Black Religion &amp; Film, The Hollywood Musical, Topics in German Cinema, Film Music, Jewish Image in Popular Culture, The Hollywood Musical, Sword &amp; Sandal: The Ancient Mediterranean in Film, James Bond &amp; Popular Culture, Classics in Film, Bollywood &amp; Social Justice, Video Production, and Folklore &amp; Myth in Japanese Film.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Students interested in having one of these courses or another course count as an elective should contact <a title=\"Robert Spadoni\" href=\"http:\/\/casfaculty.case.edu\/robert-spadoni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Spadoni<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Other Details<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to 6 credits can count toward both the film minor and a major or\u00a0other minor.<\/li>\n<li>No fewer than 9 of the 15 credits toward the minor must be earned through coursework at CWRU.<\/li>\n<li>STUDENTS TAKING A LOT OF FILM COURSES will occasionally run up against the 42-credit limit of ENGL courses that can count toward graduating. If you think you are approaching\u00a0this limit, look for cross lists for ENGL film courses (WLIT for example).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>To Declare a Film Minor<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/case.edu\/ugstudies\/forms\/MinorDeclarationForm\">Film Minor Declaration form<\/a>.
