This is a topic of which he (Ken Ledford) says he was skeptical in 2017, but not quite so much now. We might think to ask him also about parallels to Biden\u2019s (or Trump\u2019s?) America in current Europe.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

In-Person and Virtual Attendance<\/h3>\n

We will meet this week in one of our alternate locations, Mather House 100.\u00a0<\/strong>The address is 11201 Euclid Ave, but the building is set back from Euclid and the main entrance faces east to the Church of the Covenant.<\/p>\n

We continue also to offer the meetings on Zoom. We do require pre-registering so as to avoid \u201czoom-bombing.\u201d The pre-registration link is posted below.<\/p>\n

The discussion begins at 12:30 p.m., but the room should be open no later than Noon. We try to have beverages and refreshments set up soon after that. Participants should be able to sign on to Zoom also by Noon. But please remember not much will be happening online until the talk begins at 12:30 pm. Please also be prepared to show identification when entering Kelvin Smith Library.<\/p>\n

Zoom participants should speak up when asked for questions or comments, or submit thoughts through Zoom\u2019s chat function. Please keep yourself muted until you are choosing to speak.<\/p>\n

Each week we will send out this newsletter with information about the topic. It will also include a link to register (for free) for the discussion.<\/strong>\u00a0When you register, you will automatically receive from the Zoom system the link to join the meeting. About Our Guest<\/span><\/h3>\n

Ken Ledford<\/strong>, Associate Professor of History and Law, is a social historian of modern Germany, from 1789 to the present. His research focuses primarily upon processes of class formation, particularly the emergence and decline of the influence of the educated, liberal middle-class of education. That manifests especially in the roles of lawyers and the judiciary. His teaching interests extend beyond German history to include the history of the European middle classes, the history of the European middle classes, the history of the professions, European legal history, other processes of class formation including German and European labor history, as well as the history of European international relations and diplomatic history.<\/p>\n

Professor Ledford earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and practiced law for four years before earning his Ph.D. in History from The Johns Hopkins University. He joined our Department of History in 1991 and was appointed to the Law faculty in 1996.<\/span><\/p>\n
