Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n
Until the financial markets imploded, it appeared that fixing the nation\u2019s broken system to finance medical care would be the first priority of an Obama administration. Health care is a major component of both parties\u2019 platforms, and the system\u2019s problems make it unlikely to be ignored even in the presence of other crises. What, then, are the stakes in this election? The good news is, both candidates propose some very similar things.<\/p>\n
The bad news is, what they agree on isn\u2019t very practical, and what they disagree on is extremely important. In some ways, Senator McCain\u2019s proposals are more dramatic than Senator Obama\u2019s. Joe White, the Luxenberg Family Professor of Public Policy, will describe the differences, and then we\u2019ll see what others think.<\/p>\n
As usual, we will gather in Room 9 of the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence, on the lower level of Crawford Hall, for free cookies, beverages, and brown bag lunch.<\/p>\n

Joseph White<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0came to Case in 2000 as Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Policy Studies, and became Department Chair in 2003. He came to Cleveland from New Orleans, where he was Associate Professor of Health Systems Management in the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at Tulane University. Previously he was a Research Associate and then Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C..
