Many summer and post-graduate plans have been cancelled or are in flux. This issue of the newsletter highlights summer and post-graduate opportunities for these uncertain times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

CWRU Summer Courses<\/u>
\nFor continuing students, consider a CWRU online summer course. Courses available for International Studies include ECON 103, AprANTH 102, HSTY 113 and numerous options for area and topical foci and foreign language study. Check in SIS.<\/p>\n

Virtual Volunteering<\/a>
\nThese volunteer positions allow you to work remotely and, in some cases, on international topics.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 Research<\/a>
\nVolunteer as a research assistant on CoronaNet, a global effort to collect data on government responses worldwide to the pandemic.\u00a0On the web page, go to the “joining the team” section.<\/p>\n

Summer Positions<\/u>
\nPitch working remotely to organizations found on the International Studies web site<\/a>, in the newsletter archives<\/a> for this semester, on this\u00a0list<\/a> of international security and foreign policy internship organizations, and in this e-book<\/a> of global organizations in a variety of fields.<\/p>\n

Inter-American Dialogue Internships<\/a>
\nThe Inter-American Dialogue, which promotes democracy, prosperity, and equity in the Americas, offers a variety of internships. Summers applications are due May 1.<\/p>\n

The Borgen Project<\/a>
\nThe Borgen Project, a non-profit organization aiming to end global poverty, offers telecommute internships in journalism, political affairs, and human resources.<\/p>\n

Progressive Policy Institute Internships<\/a>
\nPPI offers internships, some of which have an international focus.\u00a0Summer applications are due May 15.\u00a0Fall applications accepted beginning July 1.<\/p>\n

U.S. Agency for International Development<\/a>\u00a0Internships<\/a>
\nUSAID offers internships during the academic year.\u00a0 Application deadlines vary.<\/p>\n

National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations Internship\u00a0<\/a>
\nThe National Council offers fall internships.\u00a0Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.<\/p>\n

American Enterprise Institute Internship<\/a>
\nAEI offers academic-year internships, some of which have an international focus, to recent graduates.\u00a0 Application deadlines vary.<\/p>\n

The National Endowment for Democracy<\/a>
\nThe National Endowment for Democracy offers a number of internship opportunities. The fall 2020 application period opened April 20.<\/p>\n

The American Institute for Contemporary German Studies<\/a>
\nAICGS offers internships and seeks to promote German-American relations.\u00a0Fall internship applications are due June 1.<\/p>\n

House of Representatives Ways & Means Committee Internship<\/a>
\nInternships can include work on foreign issues, such as international trade agreements.\u00a0Fall applications are due June 15.<\/p>\n

American Foreign Policy Council<\/a>
\nThe Council offers internships year round.\u00a0Fall applications are due July 1.<\/p>\n

Max Kampelman Fellowships<\/a>
\nThe Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe seeks recent undergraduates as interns.\u00a0 Applications for fall fellowships are due July 15.<\/p>\n

National Security Archive<\/a>
\nThe National Security Archive offers international relations internships.\u00a0Fall applications are due by the end of July.<\/p>\n

Refugees International Internships<\/a>
\nRefugees International offers internships.\u00a0Fall internship applications are due August 1.<\/p>\n

Global Conversations<\/a>
\nJoin the Cleveland Council on World Affairs for its podcasts on global issues.<\/p>\n

Virtual Student Federal Service<\/a>
\nInternational Studies majors have had\u00a0excellent experiences interning remotely during the academic year for U.S. government agencies, including the Department of State.\u00a0 Positions are listed beginning July 1.<\/p>\n

La Seine \u00e9tait rouge<\/a><\/em>
\nThis novel, The Seine Was Red<\/em> in English, describes a forgotten event in French history during the Algerian War, in which the Paris police attacked and killed Algerian protestors and threw their bodies into the Seine. Recommended by Rachel Rider \u201920.<\/p>\n

The Farewell<\/a><\/em>
\nThis true story of a Chinese-American family that returns to China to see their dying-grandmother who is unaware of her condition reveals the stark cultural differences between the Chinese Diaspora and Mainland Chinese. Recommended by Jason Guo \u201921.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
