\u201cDevelopments\u201d highlights recent philanthropic support for the <\/span><\/i>College of Arts and Sciences <\/span><\/i><\/a>at <\/span><\/i>Case Western Reserve University<\/span><\/i><\/a> from alumni, friends, corporations and other constituents.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

An anonymous donor made a gift of $55,000 to create a student research fund in the <\/span>Department of Physics<\/span><\/a> to support undergraduate summer research opportunities in experimental particle astrophysics as well as other undergraduate summer and academic-year research, research expenses and\/or undergraduate professional development.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Clara Kai-Yu Lin and <\/span>Ta-Shyong Lin<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>(GRS ’71, physics; GRS ’73, computer engineering)\u00a0<\/span>Fund for <\/span>Physics Graduate Student Support is a new endowment to support professional development, research, fellowships and scholarships in perpetuity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two new <\/span>Nord Family Emerging Scholars Program<\/span><\/a> Strategic Initiatives Funds have been created with gifts of $25,000 each by <\/span>Hersh<\/b> Cohen <\/b>(ADL \u201962) and <\/span>Fern Cohen<\/b>, and by <\/span>Sandra Kraeuter Kops<\/b>, PhD (FSM \u201972), and <\/span>Daniel Kops Jr.<\/b><\/p>\n

An undergraduate had the opportunity to study plant ecology and conservation at <\/span>Case Western Reserve\u2019s University Farm<\/span><\/a> this summer thanks to a recent $20,000 gift. A portion of the gift also provides for an undergraduate summer research fellowship in the <\/span>Department of Biology<\/span><\/a>. Inspired by the farm\u2019s living laboratory, the donors sought to support this formative experience for an emerging scientist.<\/span><\/p>\n
