Online Extra: SAGES Fellows

Fall | Winter 2015

The full-time SAGES Fellows are scholars with extensive experience in creating a rich seminar environment for undergraduate students. They specialize in cultivating critical thinking and effective oral and written communication—skills at the heart of the SAGES curriculum. They enrich the SAGES program’s course offerings, developing seminars both in their research areas and in related fields. Finally, they contribute greatly to campus life beyond SAGES, serving as advisors and mentors, working with student organizations, and participating in university programs and events.

SAGES Director and Associate Dean Peter Whiting notes that the full-time SAGES Fellows have garnered numerous teaching awards. For instance, five of the nine current fellows have won the Richard A. Bloom, M.D., Award for Distinguished Teaching in the SAGES Program, and two have won the university-wide Carl F. Wittke Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

The SAGES program has received external support for two of its current full-time fellows. Lisa Nielson and Kaysha Corinealdi, the Anisfield-Wolf SAGES Fellows, hold positions funded in part by the Cleveland Foundation. In addition, SAGES will welcome the first Beamer-Schneider SAGES Fellow in Ethics, Kevin Houser, in January 2016. Hauser’s position will be funded by the Beamer-Schneider Endowment, created by the Kent H. Smith Charitable Trust (formerly the 1525 Foundation).
