Spring | Summer 2016

Virginia Carol Stella (FSM ’55) recently moved to a retirement community in San Rafael, Calif., where she enjoys a view of Mount Tamalpais from her apartment. She is a botanical artist who exhibits her work at the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley, where she also volunteers.

Walter Klauss (ADL ’58, GRS ’61, music), who was minister of music at All Souls Unitarian Church in Manhattan for almost 40 years, has organized a concert series titled “Bach, Before and Beyond” at Old Whalers’ Church in Sag Harbor, N.Y., where he is artist in residence. An organist, harpsichordist and pianist, Klauss made his debut as an organ recitalist at the Cleveland Museum of Art at age 17.

James Wyant (CIT ’65) was named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. A major donor to Case Western Reserve, Wyant is a member of the university’s board of trustees and chairs its research and technology transfer committee.

Anita Nelson (GRS ’75, art education) is the featured artist in “Stories,” an exhibition at the Sugar Land Art Center and Gallery in Sugar Land, Tex., this summer.

Danny Carver (GRS ’81, art history; GRS ’94, art education) is the visual arts department chair at Cleveland School of the Arts. His students recently completed a mural featuring Cleveland landmarks for the atrium of George Gund Hall at Case Western Reserve’s School of Law.

Jonathan B. Gavras, MD (WRC ’81) has been named chief medical officer of Prime Therapeutics, a pharmacy benefit management company.

Steve Barrett (WRC ’83) has been named superintendent of the Gahanna-Jefferson Public School District in Ohio.

Steven Oluić, USA (ret.), (WRC ’83), dean of the Arts & Sciences Division at Lakeland Community College, received a Fulbright award from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. As a participant in a Fulbright Community College Administrators Seminar, Oluić traveled to Moscow and three other Russian cities, laying the foundation for cultural exchanges between Lakeland and Russian institutions.

Adam Schulman (WRC ’87) has joined the professional staff of Faulk Center for Counseling in Boca Raton, Fla., as a program manager and clinical supervisor.

Holly Witchey (GRS ’90, art history) was named one of Cleveland Magazine’s “Most Interesting People 2016.” An adjunct professor in the Department of Art History and Art, Witchey directs the Wade Project at the Western Reserve Historical Society, an archival exploration of the philanthropic legacy of Cleveland’s Wade family.

Jason Knight (CWR ’98) recently moved back to the Cleveland area, where he is a software developer at Hyland Software.

Christopher Bedford (GRS ‘03) has been named director of the Baltimore Museum of Art. He will also be a co-curator of the U.S. Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.

Mary Manning (CWR ’08), a member of AmeriCorps/Ohio History Service Corps in Oberlin, Ohio, gave an illustrated lecture in January for the Oberlin Heritage Center, examining the experiences of local residents who served in World War I.

Natalie Cheung (CWR ’09, LAW ’13) has joined the Las Vegas office of Lewis Roca Rothgerber as an associate in the business transactions practice group.

Bhavani Raveendran (CWR ’09) has joined Romanucci & Blandin, a personal injury and civil trial practice law firm in Chicago, as an associate attorney.

Iris Jamahl Dunkle (GRS ’10, English) published her second poetry collection, There’s a Ghost in this Machine of Air, last fall. She teaches at Napa Valley College and is the poet laureate of Sonoma County, Calif.

Greg Meyer (CWR ’10) has been named an assistant football coach at Eastern Kentucky University.

Tony Morris (GRS ’10, art history), associate professor of art history at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., has been elected to the board of directors of the Southeastern College Art Conference.
