Photographer and Image Collection Manager
Laura Travis works as the Dittrick’s photographer and Image Collection Manager, and has been designing exhibits and producing creative photography for the Museum for the past 23 years. Prior to coming to work at the Dittrick Museum, Laura worked as a commercial photographer specializing in architectural and product photography. She earned her BA. in history at CWRU and has a degree in photography from the Colorado Institute of Art.
At the museum, Laura provides both creative and documentary photography for books, journals, exhibits, and public relations materials. Laura also provides image research and works on permissions of historic images acquired from other institutions, most recently for the Dittrick’s interactive digital exhibit “How Medicine Became Modern”.
Laura is trained work with historic media such as lantern slides, glass negatives, and historic prints. Damaged images can require the use of advanced Photoshop and retouching skills, and Laura continues to attend workshops as new software becomes available. She is likewise familiar with Past Perfect software (the museum collections database).
Researchers with inquiries pertaining to the Museums historical image collections, publications permissions, are encouraged to contact Laura by email. More information on Dittrick’s images may be found here.
