Dr. Armelli received her Ph.D. in Human Evolutionary Biology from Kent State University, where her research focused on how brain reorganization contributed to the evolutionary success of early hominins. Specifically, she examined the relationship between acetylcholine levels in the ventral striatum and patterns of canine sexual dimorphism among primates. Before joining Case, Dr. Armelli worked as a forensic anthropologist in medical examiner, university, and museum settings. In addition, she has experience with the repatriation of osteological materials, including ancestral human remains subject to the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). She has been a member of the Ohio Mortuary Operational Response Team since 2017. Her current interests include forensic anthropology, skeletal biology, and the ethics of body donation. She currently teaches BIO 216: Development and Physiology.
