Women’s and Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students to think critically and creatively by employing gender as a primary category of analysis. The program is set up to examine a variety of issues of specific interest to women and of general interest to scholars of gender studies across a variety of diverse cultural and historical settings.

Candace Martin
Candace Martin (CAS ‘12), a graduate of the interdisciplinary Women’s and Gender Studies Program, affirmed the value of her degree in an essay for the Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Wash. “Growing up, I was often told what I couldn’t do,” Martin wrote. “Feminism and women’s and gender studies opened my eyes to what I could do… I don’t believe my accomplishments would have been possible without my undergraduate experience.” Martin is currently the women’s and gender studies program coordinator at Eastern Washington University.
