How is research on campus helping to address pressing problems in Cleveland and the global community? And, how can students have an impact too? The International Studies Program and the CWRU chapter of Sigma Iota Rho, the international studies honor society, hosted a series this academic year to address these questions. CWRU professors shared their research and community outreach in three interactive workshops. The series was part of the Office of the Provost’s Northstar Experiences.
Examining obstacles to entrepreneurship, Michael Goldberg, Executive Director of the Veale Institute for Entrepreneurship and Associate Professor of Design and Innovation at the Weatherhead School of Management, shared his experience advising aspiring entrepreneurs in Cleveland and many countries of the world.
On the topic of illegal drug use, Lee Hoffer, Associate Professor of Anthropology and School of Medicine Professor of Psychiatry led a workshop. Professor Hoffer is also a member of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee.
Kelly McMann, Professor of Political Science and Director of the International Studies Program, and Daniel Tisch, Associate Professor of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences and Director of the Master of Public Health Program, led a workshop on political institutions and the COVID-19 pandemic. Professors McMann and Tisch also work as consultants for international development organizations and the Cleveland Department of Public Health, respectively.
