Interim Dean Peter Whiting hosted the College of Arts and Sciences end-of-year party on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, at the Maltz Performing Arts Center. The highlight of the party was the announcement of the 2023-2024 Outstanding Staff Awards recipients, who were recognized for their commitment to the college, teamwork within and beyond their department, and the impact and exceptional contributions over the past academic year.
Congratulations to our winners:
Keesha Sellars (Department Administrator, Department of Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics)
Upon joining the college in 2023, Keesha immediately took on the task of managing her team of two and in supporting more than 80 faculty, staff and graduate students. She also has a “heartwarming personality that helps build a welcoming and collegial working environment.” Last spring she earned her Master of Science in Positive Organization Development from Weatherhead.
Owen Lockhart (Facility, Equipment and Safety Manager, Department of Biology)
Owen is recognized for his critical role in moving the introductory teaching labs to their new space in the Dental Research Building. It was “a massive undertaking” and his attention to the big picture and the details made the successful move possible. He volunteers with the Cleveland Metroparks protecting local turtle communities, and supports the Katmai Conservancy in Alaska for Fat Bear Week.
Gianni Quartell (Manager of Faculty Affairs, College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office)
Gianni has a “particular ability to take mundane, commonplace issues that can tie up an entire process and fix them immediately.” He was recognized for his expertise and initiative, while also being able to “balance priorities in a way that his colleagues feel like he’s taking care of them.” It was noted that he displays the values of cooperation and teamwork at the heart of our shared enterprise.
Katie Bingman (Advisor and Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Advising Support Office)
Katie actually spent 12 years as a student services specialist in the Department of Biology before moving over to student affairs. She always lends her advice on matters pertaining to curriculum and student advising, with the utmost courtesy and professionalism, while staying enthusiastic with all, especially students. It was noted that “she prioritizes helping students and in supporting their needs.”
Attendees enjoyed live music, appetizers and drinks.
