Graduation Spotlight: Gustavo Márquez

Gustavo Márquez Gustavo Márquez

Area of Study: Master of Fine Arts in Acting

Q: Why did you choose this area of study for an advanced degree?

A: Acting has been a passion of mine for over a decade now. Several years back I realized that I wanted to do this professionally. I was told by my mentors, that receiving training and attaining an advanced degree would help me in getting closer to my goal of working as a professional actor.

Q: What’re your next steps?

A: After a New York Showcase that my program organizes and graduation, my next steps are to move to New York City, gain representation with a New York agency, establish myself in the city and begin auditioning for work in film, television and theatre.

Q: What is your favorite memory at CWRU?

A: My favorite memory at CWRU is my first professional production with Cleveland Play House, the theatre my program is partnered with. The production was “Light it Up!” I met some very kind, generous and talented actors and artists. They reminded me after some time away from the theatre, because of the pandemic, how important community is for our physical and mental well being.

Q: What is your advice for a student starting a graduate or professional program at CWRU?

A: Graduate school can be very lonely at times. That is why it is important to find and build your community while you are here at CWRU. Asking for help is a strength. As humans we are meant to be in community. Reach out your hand when you need it, and extend a helping hand when you can.
