Associate Professor of German and Chinese

Peter Jianhua Yang

(PhD, Utah) Associate Professor of German, Chinese and Comparative Literature at Case Western Reserve University, where he teaches and serves in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. He assumed this position following years as German translator and senior researcher in China and Austria, and years as Language Center Directors at CWRU and elsewhere. His publications include several books and translated volumes, numerous journal papers, book chapters, and book and film reviews in German Studies, language teaching and technology, and economics. His most recent books include Theater ist Theater on theatricality in the chalk-circle plays by Bertolt Brecht and Li Xingdao [Peter Lang, 1998] and Play is Play on the Swiss playwright Max Frisch’s The Great Wall [University Press of America, 2000]. Currently, he is working on book projects in German Through Plays and Green Transformation in Germany, the United States, and China. He has received a number of grants and awards, including a Provost Opportunity Grant ($260,000).
