WISER Annual Bake Sale Fundraiser for SEVA
Wednesdays 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in Nord Hall. WISER’s (Women in Science and Engineering Roundtable) ongoing fundraiser to support an adopted school for the underprivileged in Bangalore, India though the organization SEVA (Soujanya Sevashrama). The bake sale will feature samosas and chai tea.

Shanxi University Student Art Troupe Performance
Sunday, September 28th 12:30 to 3:00 pm at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Celebrate Chinese Culture through song, dance and art with this traveling student group. Free with admission to the museum.

 

Europe

Writers Center Stage featuring Zadie Smith
Tuesday, September 30th at 7:30 pm at The Tinkham Veale Center. Award winning British novelist Zadie Smith will discuss her latest book NW, a National Critics Circle Award finalist. Followed by a book signing. Proceeds help support the Cuyahoga County Public Library. $30

Film Viewing of Agnes Varda: From Here to There
Saturday, September 27th at 12:30 pm at the Cleveland Museum of Art. From Here to There is the French filmmaker’s latest video diary presenting an “overview of contemporary culture.” $10 for students.

Glass and Arts in the Byzantine Empire
Sunday, September 28th at 2:00 pm at the Cleveland Museum of Art. A lecture with Dr. Anastasios Antonaras, archaeologist-museologist at the Museum of Byzantine Culture, Thessaloniki, Greece. Dr. Antonaras will outline the history and uses of glass of the Byzantine Empire. Tickets required. Free.

Which Mexicans Became Americans? Comparing Mexican Naturalization in Chicago and Los Angeles, 1900 – 1940. Wednesday, October 1st 12:30 to 2:00 pm in Mather House Room 100. A lecture with John Flores, Associate Professor of History and specialist in Mexican American history. Sponsored by the CWRU Social Justice Institute.
