As the founding editor of art/sci magazine, Arthur Evenchik has told hundreds of stories about the people who have contributed to the College of Arts and Sciences with their passion, intellect and humanity. 

“Like any editor, I wanted to tell compelling stories,” Arthur says.”How did our faculty members and students find their way to their fields of inquiry or artistic endeavors? What motivates and inspires them? I was grateful to our subjects for their willingness to answer these questions and recount their life journeys.”

After 17 years as the magazine’s editor, Arthur stepped down last summer to devote more time to communications projects for Dean Joy K. Ward and to his duties as coordinator of the Emerging Scholars Program. His successor, Sandy Livingston, has been editor of the university’s flagship publication, Think magazine, since 2014.

“I’m thrilled to be editor of art/sci,” says Sandy, whose inaugural issue is now published. “I’m excited to highlight the remarkable and impactful achievements of faculty, students and alumni from across the college who strive to help improve our community and our world.”

Before she joined the university, Sandy spent much of her career as a reporter at The Plain Dealer, receiving numerous local, state and national awards for stories she wrote or co-wrote. She has a bachelor’s degree in history from Brown University and a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

 Sandy and Arthur worked closely together during the transition. “I want to thank Arthur for his camaraderie and collaboration when we were editing different magazines,” Sandy says, “and for his thoughtful and insightful support as I developed my inaugural issue of art/sci.”

“Sandy will do great work,” Arthur says. “I’m excited to follow along and see where she takes the magazine.”
