In November, the Department of Theater will debut “20/20 (hindsight),” an original production written and performed by students and directed by Shanna Beth McGee, professor in the Department of Theater.
Sixteen students will perform a mix of monologues, poems and dances reflecting their personal experiences, both serious and humorous, during the COVID-19 shutdown. There are also two powerful pieces about being BIPOC (Black Indigenous and People of Color) in America, McGee said.
“I wanted students to have a vehicle to tell their stories, and to create a chronicle of this extraordinary time we’re living in,” said McGee. “I’m constantly astonished that 18- to 20-year-olds are having to deal with these incredibly adult issues. Some issues seem less important, like not having prom or graduation, but they still had a huge impact on these students’ lives. Some are big—family members with COVID, or fires threatening your home on the West Coast.”
Tickets for this live, 70-minute performance, presented over Zoom, are free but registration is required.
Performances are November 12-14, 7:30 p.m.; and November 15, 2:30 p.m., EST.
