Maggie Popkin, Robson Junior Professor and associate professor in the Department of Art History and Art, has won a 2020–21 Rome Prize. These highly competitive fellowships support advanced independent work and research in the arts and humanities. Popkin is the first faculty member from Case Western Reserve University to win the Rome Prize.
Gabrielle (Brie) Parkin, a lecturer in the Department of English and interim director of the Writing Resource Center, received this year’s Richard A. Bloom, M.D. Award for Distinguished Teaching in the SAGES Program. The award was established in 2008 by alumnus Richard Bloom (WRC ’74, MED ’79).

Alan Rocke, Distinguished University Professor and the Henry Eldridge Bourne Professor Emeritus in the Department of History, was named co-recipient of the Franklin-Lavoisier Prize. Co-sponsored by the Fondation de la Maison de la Chimie in Paris and the Science History Institute in Philadelphia, the award recognizes unusually meritorious efforts in the preservation or promotion of the entwined scientific heritage of France and the United States.

Tim Shuckerow, director of the Art Education/Art Studio programs in the Department of Art History and Art, is retiring in August after 32 years at the helm. He has actively recruited art education students from backgrounds underrepresented in the teaching profession. Works by African American alumni were featured in an exhibition honoring his legacy.
